The ENERGIZE trial: Reassessing pCR and exploring ctDNA
In this episode, UROONCO BCa chief editor Dr. Benjamin Pradere interviews Assoc. Prof. Andrea Necchi about the results from the phase 3 CA017-078 (ENERGIZE) trial, which he presented at ESMO26. The trial investigates neoadjuvant chemotherapy alone versus in combination with nivolumab, followed by postsurgical adjuvant nivolumab, in patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC).
Assoc. Prof. Andrea Necchi discusses the rationale and design of the trial, as well as the implications of its negative results, with neither co-primary endpoint, pathological complete response (pCR) and event-free survival (EFS) being met. They also talk about the potential role of circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) in treatment monitoring, risk stratification, and future clinical trial design.
