An introduction to the YUORnal Club: Contemporary urological knowledge in 60 seconds
Keeping pace with developments across urology is an essential part of professional life. However, alongside clinical duties, surgical training and academic commitments, following the literature regularly can be challenging. YUORnal Club, a new initiative within the EAU Young Urologists Office (YUO), aims to bring contemporary urological knowledge closer to the community through a simple format: one publication, one minute, once a month.

Initiated by Dr. Marko Vuković within the YUO group, the series presents concise video commentaries on selected publications from European Urology and its family of journals. Its principal aim is to familiarise the urological community, particularly young urologists, with current knowledge and evolving perspectives across the specialty.
A familiar concept in a new format
Journal clubs have long provided an opportunity to discuss research and consider its relevance to clinical practice. YUORnal Club draws on this educational tradition and adapts it to the short video, or “reel”, format.
Each 60-second episode focuses on a selected paper, bringing its central message to the viewer in a concise and accessible way. The planned monthly schedule offers a regular point of contact with the literature, while the broad scope of the series allows different areas of urology to be represented over time.
The choice of format reflects a practical ambition: to make educational content easy to engage with during a busy working day. A brief video can introduce a topic, highlight an important finding and prompt viewers to explore a publication they might otherwise have missed.
Connecting publications with clinical thinking
The central educational goal is to increase awareness of contemporary evidence and the perspectives emerging from it. For young urologists, this can help connect knowledge acquired during training with questions encountered in everyday practice.
Presenting a paper in one minute also requires a clear focus. The commentary must identify the main message while preserving the context needed to understand it. Individual findings should be presented with appropriate care, recognising that a publication contributes to a wider body of evidence.
The videos therefore serve as an introduction to the selected research. Reading the original article remains important for understanding its methods, limitations and potential clinical implications. Encouraging that further engagement is an additional aim of the initiative.
Building a monthly educational series
The first YUORnal Club episode has been published, and the second is currently in preparation. The plan is to continue with monthly videos featuring noteworthy publications on a variety of urological topics.
As the series develops, the ambition is to build a collection of accessible educational updates that reflects the breadth of the specialty. Although young urologists are a particular focus, the content is intended for the wider urological audience.
Through this initiative, we hope to stimulate curiosity, support continued learning and encourage discussion of contemporary research among colleagues. A short video can provide a useful first encounter with a publication and an invitation to learn more.
